May 2011

I rode almost every weekend, including traveling to the Snowy Range, WY to ride with 10 High Crew and Calvin Felker along with his sister Brook Felker-Smith, Wes Reiff from Braap Wraps and many others!!  I am so blessed to have met so many great riding buddies this year.  It is a great reminder how many awesome people there really are in this small world.  My last ride was Memorial Day weekend, it was a late start as my son had broke his thumb while playing a nice friendly game of basketball.  This required surgery, but he asked to put it off so he could go ride with me.  Yes just he and I headed out Friday for the long weekend, off to Wyoming we went after they put a cast clear to his elbow on his right arm.  They did this so he could go ride, we had to find gloves to fit over the cast and off we went.  We rode Saturday it was a snowy day, and we had about 6-8" of fresh pow.  The sun broke a few times and we watched Calvin hit some awesome jumps.  I then was scoping out a nice climb, that had ZERO run-out at the bottom.  I decided to go for it, unfortunately I did not make it the entire way up, only 3/4 as there was a track that threw me off course and the slick snow conditions I just couldn't pull it off.  I had to have help and we tied the back of the sled to a tree so it would stay put while we turned it around. It was finally turned around and the guys got the sled safely to a spot where I could ride it back down the hill and through trees at a rather fast pace.  As I got back, my son said he was a tad worried about me, which was a bitter sweet feeling for me.  Glad he still worries about his mom at the age of 16, yet sad that I made him worry.  The next day was a bluebird day, we rode again this time towards Widow Maker.  It was definitely spring conditions, but was awesome hill climbing and jumping snow, as you can see my broken son was enjoying some jumping action!! We had a gal with us that had only rode a couple times, and she was anxious to learn.  I spent a bit of time trying to teach her how to carve on hard spring snow.  We hit some jumps and I of course climbed up the Widow Maker, I absolutely love to climb hills, the coming down does get my blood pumping a bit though.

(My son ended up having surgery about 10 days later, as his summer had just begun when we found out it was broke. He had deep sea fishing plans that couldn't be rescheduled.  The Dr. said he couldn't do anymore damage to it, he has spent 8 weeks in a cast and is now starting physical therapy. 7-26-2011)

We rode here in Colorado on the Grand Mesa with some of our favorite riding buddies. We had to go check on the cabin, and this is what we found.

The front door!!

We then decided that there is no way were were going to shovel the roof, it was still standing and we didn't need to go inside....so we went to ride!!   We rode to Leon Peak which is the fire look out, had great spring conditions as we could go anywhere.

After posing for photos and my son and the other "boys" rolling rocks down the mountains, we went to find some filming material for me!!

My son even got some video shots!!

As the day ended, our friends had a BLAST and so did we.  We stopped for dinner at a small restaurant in Mesa and my son showed me his thumb that he had jammed the night before playing basketball.  It was all black and blue and swollen, URGH this meant we needed to see the Doctor first thing in the morning.  He never complained all day, I had no idea his thumb would end up being broken.

Early-Mid May 2011

I drove to Snowy Range to meet up with 10 High and Calven Felker and many others several times.  I thought my season was over, but it wasn't to my surprise!!  We rode in snowing/socked in weather.  It was a AWESOME day, nice pow and tree riding!!  Calvin let me ride his Aerocharger turbo'd Skidoo freestyle XP 800 154", OMG what a rush!!!  I could turn that thing on a dime, carve like no other and the power was just plain AWESOME!!!  I wish I had a chance to ride it on a sunny day and do some hill climbing.   In case you don't know who Calvin Felker is, he is on the Skidoo Freeride team.  He is a spectacular person to watch ride, so nimble and can handle just about anything terrain wise.  I also helped out with a fundraiser for Justin Humphries, his house had burnt down with all of his belongings.  This was done in Fort Collins at 100 Octane Club.  We raised some money for him of course it is never enough!! My sled was on display for the fundraiser!!

The next day was bluebird again for a while, a sweet line I pulled...and screamed as I came over the top and found a nice drop off!!!

April 2011

I have been to Klim Industries http://www.klimusa.com for a Woman's Workforce to help them understand what women want for riding gear.  It was a great turn out with 19 riding ladies.  We toured the facility and went over all of the product and what we mountain and trail riders would like to see in there upcoming line of products, even a possible motor cross line.

I then proceeded to Towgotee, Wyoming again from Rigby Idaho to ride with Cameron from 10 High www.10highextreme.com and some service men who just returned from there tour in Afghanistan.  There first priority after landing on US soil was riding snowmobiles, so they traveled from Great Falls, MT to ride.  They had a great time, and we got some footage of them as well.  What a pleasure it was for me to be a part of such a great time, they really were thankful we took them out.  I am thankful for all they do for us.  They said it was "there job" I told them that they CHOSE that job and didn't have to choose it, therefore I am forever grateful to them!! I then headed to the Snowy Range, Wyoming and due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances riding did not pan out on Sunday.  I am however returning in 2 weeks to ride and video I hope!!!

March 2011

Well I have been getting some footage for 10 High, what a great group of people!!  We attended the Pink Ribbon Ride in Towgotee, Wyoming www.pinkribbonriders.com, it was awesome, thank you Jodi for all you do!!  I met some great people and had good snow.  We rode with Kirk Zak from HMK, Skinner Bell from Jackson, Dan Adams showed up for a bit.  We got to watch Skinner Bell launch his pink Polaris Pro into the highway of course not on purpose!!  It landed on the track, and didn't get hit by the on coming truck.  I also got to watch some great guys do some turbo riding and reentry's.  I managed to get stuck on a hill climb in the trees....a time or 2!!

I then went to the Big Horns, Wyoming for a wedding and of course took the sled!!  We had beautiful days!!!

Well I have had a heck of a week.....it started out last Friday, we were in the Big Horns, Burgess Jct Wyoming. My old stomping grounds!!
We had a good day of riding and we were in our last valley before we headed out....awesome long climb, couldn't make it the first time, so I hit it again.....that is when it happened.... Turned out and the sled died right then, I knew she was done. Tired and wore out.......the pull rope wouldn't come any farther than 5 inches.....she was seized. So I pulled the plugs, and the PTO side was white with flakes, the exhaust side was perfect. URGH, so I get some oil in the cylinders to coat them just in case I can get it started to get it back up the other side to tow her back. We got her broke lose, just gave her a few minutes and she was ok.....but didn't want to do any more damage so got her to the top of the other side and towed her out......loaded her into the truck and there she sat.

Right before she died

She watched me go get a 2011 800 146 etec from Action Motor Sports (Gillette Wy).  www.actionmotorsportswy.com  I borrowed his wifes sled for the next day....WOW what a nice ride We had a great day!! This is where it gets AWESOME!!! We come home from our great time, and I call Felker Motor Sports first thing Monday morning wanting to get pricing for parts. Next thing I know is I have a new short block motor in my hot little hands today. I want to thank Brooke, Lynn and the rest of the Felker crew for your awesome customer service and being such a great dealership!!! www.felkermotorsports.net

Early March we took the local Adventure Scout troop out for a great ride.  They enjoyed the beautiful day, we had a fire and roasted hot dogs.  We went over the safety aspect of the snowmobile and equipment needed for that emergency we hope we never have in the back country.  Along on this ride was the local forest supervisor and his son.  We showed them the terrain and they enjoyed a great father-son day.  I actually had my son follow me up a hill that distroy's many sleds, and he made it with ease.  What a proud moment I had, knowing that if it wasn't for me taking my son riding at a early age, while I was a single mother, the wouldn't have the passion he has for the sport today!!!

February 2011

Well the Carve for the Curves was awesome!!  I had 57 people show up and raised $1,500.00 for the Aspen Affiliate Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  The day was like the prior fundraiser, snowy and hard to see for the 40 mile ride.  A few minor issues with a couple of break downs, but all in all it was a great day!!!  Thank you to everyone that made it happen!!!!

Happy Holidays!!  Please remember to be safe and use your head.  Riding conditions are not yet what we would like them to be in our area.  I am planning on doing several ladies rides this year.  They will be all sorts of different rides, including helping beginner riders become more confident in there riding and just being in the back country.  Intermediate rides/clinics, this will be for anyone that wants to learn maybe how to carve, hill climb, boondock etc.  Ladies ride will be for fun; this will be for all stages of ladies to come join me in riding in our back yard.  I hope to still do a Breast Cancer event again this year; I am planning on doing it in February at this time.  I will have more up to date information as it develops.

I have been working with a group of individuals this past fall fighting the Hidden Gems Wilderness Proposal; this affects our riding here locally in the Western Slope of Colorado, over 400,000 acres in my back yard literally 600 or so yards from my house.  If you would like to help us fight please visit the  White River Forest Alliance website and join as a member it is free, also if you can donate we have a quick, safe and secure donation page.

Thank you to all of my sponsors and family for all of the support you have given me, for my passion of snowmobiling and helping get others involved in the wonderful family sport of snowmobiling!!
